Questions and Answers:

Appreciations

Are you a full-time professional or a weekend shooter?

Although many weddings do take place at the weekend, I'm a full time professional photographer, following my great love - photographing weddings.

What's your style?

Essentially, documentary - I'm looking for the magic moment, the fleeting glance and the spontaneous emotion: but I also want to capture the essence of the occasion, to interact, stimulate and create, and to add something joyful - especially to the group shots.

Why are your prices so reasonable?

I don't see photography as a business first and art second. And I don't aspire to photograph only the wealthy. I enjoy working with people from all walks of life and social backgrounds, and I want my photography to be available to everyone.

What kind of equipment do you use?

I'm a Nikon man. The sensitivity of modern digital cameras makes it possible to make use of the available light in most situations - which helps maintain the atmosphere - and I use a soft flash to fill in the shadows when appropriate. In addition to the Speedlights, I also carry LED continuous lighting units for when we have to bring in our own light.

Do you photograph anything else?

Weddings and family celebrations are my great love, but I also enjoy portraiture and have always been drawn to live performance, whether musical or theatrical. I have another website - www.alternativeoccasions.com that focuses on other areas of interest.

How much of your attention will I get?

I enjoy getting immersed in my work, so it would be unusual to take on more than one major event in a week: I want time to talk with you, to recce the location, to visualise the possibilities and to go through the pictures afterwards without the pressure of other commitments.

Can you help me find the other suppliers that we'll need?

Yes - I'm involved in an excellent new wedding directory where the suppliers have all been hand-picked: just follow this link www.weddingsinyork.com
